Going to the Lake

There is nothing more Minnesotan than going to the lake, or as it is often referred to "going up north."

Some of my fondest memories of childhood revolve around time spent fishing, swimming, and skiing at our family's lake cabin. It was a very basic cabin, but served it's purpose very well.

We are very fortunate that we are able offer the same experience to our boys. We have some very generous friends that enjoy sharing their cabin with our family.

Time spent at the lake is different than vacation or a lazy weekend at home. The pressures of "having to do something" while on vacation are not there and the guilt of not working on a home project or 3 is also left in the driveway on the way out of town. Time spent by the lake is fun and relaxing and often seems to stand still. It is amazing how you can play for what seems like all day until you look at the clock and realize it's only 2 in the afternoon. Plenty of time left in the day to grab a beer and keep on playing.

The best part for me on trips to the lake always are watching the boys having fun, learning new things, and overcoming fears. I feel very blessed that I can share these experiences with our boys.
